Feste Isolierstoffe müssen überall dort verwendet werden, wo die Isolation zusätzliche mechanische Aufgaben zu erfüllen hat. Es sind anorganische Isolierstoffe (Porzellan, Glas, Glimmer) und organische (Kunststoff, Gummi, Papier) zu unterscheiden.
