Zusammenfassung
Daß der bereits 1827 gestorbene Pierre Simon Laplace (geb. 1749) eine zentrale Stellung für die Stochastik des 19. Jahrhunderts spielte, wird in nahezu allen historischen Darstellungen betont. Die Literatur zur Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung zeigt, daß dieser Einfluß bis ins letzte Drittel des 19. Jahrhunderts reicht.
Dieser Beitrag ist die überarbeitete deutsche Fassung eines Artikels Probabilita et Statistica dell’ 800 für die Reihe Storia della Scienza des Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana, Band VI, La Scienza dell’ 800, sez. C. Mathematica.
