Zusammenfassung
Aus der Sicht Angolas gab es im Jahr 2002 zwei Ereignisse, die im Hinblick auf die politische Entwicklung im südlichen Afrika von Bedeutung waren. Das eine war der Tod von Jonas Savimbi, dem Führer der Rebellenbewegung UNITA, der am 22.2. in der entlegenen ostangolanischen Provinz Moxico, nahe der Grenze mit Zambia, von der regulären Armee des Landes aufgespürt wurde und im Kampf ums Leben kam. Das andere war die Übernahme des Vorsitzes der Southern African Development Community (SADC) durch den Staatspräsidenten Angolas, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, beim jährlichen Gipfeltreffen der Organisation in Luanda vom 1.-3.10.2002.
