Zusammenfassung
Business Angels sind in Deutschland derzeit noch ein relatives junges Thema, zu dem kaum empirische Informationen vorliegen. Das bedeutet aber nicht, daß das Phänomen neu sei; vielmehr gehören Start-up-Finanzierungen durch Business Angels ebenso zur deutschen Industriegeschichte wie zur amerikanischen.1 „Business Angels“ stehen im Zusammenhang mit dem Begriff „informelles Beteiligungskapital“, einem Segment des gesamten Beteiligungskapitalmarktes, zu dem noch zwei weitere Segmente zählen, nämlich der formelle bzw. institutionalisierte Beteiligungskapitalmarkt (auf der Kapitalgeberseite repräsentiert durch Beteiligungsgesellschaften oder Venture-Capital-Gesellschaften), sowie der Markt des „Corporate Venturing“ oder des „Corporate Venture Capital“ (CVC). CVC ist Beteiligungskapital, das größere Unternehmen direkt oder indirekt in kleine Unternehmen investieren, wobei unternehmensstrategische Ziele im Vordergrund stehen. Der informelle Beteiligungskapitalmarkt ist der nicht organisierte Teil des Beteiligungskapitalmarktes. Das ist eine wichtige Unterscheidung zum institutionalisierten (oder formellen oder organisierten) Beteiligungskapitalmarkt. Weil es diverse Kooperationen und Syndizierungen zwischen den Beteiligungsgesellschaften und informellen Investoren gibt, ist der Übergang zum organisierten Markt fließend.
