Zusammenfassung

Das Internet spielt als Informationsquelle und Kommunikationsmedium für Patienten und deren Angehörige eine immer wichtigere Rolle. Hintergrund dieser Entwicklung ist die ständig steigende Zahl von Internetnutzern, die für das Jahr 1998 in Deutschland auf 6 Millionen geschätzt wird, sowie ein sich rapide entwickelndes Angebot an gesundheitsrelevanten Informationen im World Wide Web (WWW). Etwa 7% der deutschen Bevölkerung hat heute bereits einen Zugang zum Internet, weltweit haben schätzungsweise 4% einen Internetzugang. Damit hat sich der Anteil der Internetnutzer an der deutschen Gesamtbevölkerung von 1996 bis 1998 in etwa verdoppelt.
