Abstract

A photoacoustic apparatus is described consisting of a TEA CO2 laser as excitation source, two photoacoustic cells, and for signal processing a transient recorder and a digital signal analyser. Single pulse analysis as well as averaging of the acoustic signals of several laser pulses could be performed. First results are reported for the system H2S-D2S. Photoacoustic spectra recorded for D2S and H2S-D2S mixtures indicate that an interference free excitation of D2S is possible at 10,7 um. Excitation at this wavelength was employed to mofiitor the D2S concentration in H2S-D2S mixtures and to determine the equilibrium constant for the hydrogen-deuterium self-exchange reaction. The value obtained by this photoacoustic method is compared with theoretical calculations and the result of a mass spectroscopic analysis.
