Gemeinsames Merkmal der verschiedenen Typen von Dielektrika ist ein hoher spezifischer Widerstand. Alle anderen Eigenschaften und Anforderungen richten sich nach dem Einsatzgebiet und können sehr unterschiedlich sein.
