Zusammenfassung
Ein wesentliches Ziel biochemischer und biophysikalischer Arbeiten ist die Charakterisierung der Gestalt der Biomoleküle und die Bestimmung ihrer Molmnasse. In diesem Kapitel wird gezeigt, wie mit Hilfe der Osmometrie und hydrodynamischer Meßmethoden die Molmasse und idealisierte globale Struktur von Biomolekülen bestimmt werden kann. Abb. III.1 zeigt einige typische Ergebnisse, die mit Hilfe dieser Untersuchungsmethoden gewonnen wurden. Eine exakte theoretische Behandlung der hydrodynamischen Methoden ist nur im Rahmen der Theorie irreversibler Prozesse möglich. Sie ist jedoch aufgrund der Komplexität der Phänomene nur in einigen Fällen möglich. Hier werden wir im wesentlichen phänomenologische Ansätze zur Beschreibung der Meßmethoden heranziehen.
