Abstract

In Britain, abbreviations are mainly used by surveyors when taking off quantities from drawings for the preparation of bills of quantities, and when recording site measurements for the preparation of a final account. The actual bills of quantities and final account themselves are always written in full. Many of the more common abbreviations, e.g. d.p.c. (damp proof course) or g/f (ground floor), are sometimes used by architects and engineers in marking up their drawings.
