Die Antarktis beginnt bei etwa 50° südlicher Breite an der „Antarktischen Konvergenz“, wo subtropisches und antarktisches Wasser zusammentreffen. Im Zentrum der Antarktis liegt der Südpolkontinent, Antarktika.
