Mechanics is that branch of physics which deals with the action of forces on bodies and the resulting motions of bodies. Engineering mechanics or applied mechanics is the study of the principles of mechanics as applied to problems of engineering. Bodies may be at rest or in motion, therefore mechanics may be classified as:
Statics or the study of forces acting on bodies at rest and Dynamics or the study of the motions of bodies and of forces acting on moving bodies.
