Zusammenfassung
Migration und Proliferaton glatter Muskelzellen (SMC), Synthese und Sekretion von extrazellulärer Matrix sowie Veränderungen einzelner Matrixkomponenten [7] sind wesentliche Ereignisse in der Entwicklung arteriosklerotischer Plaques. Pathogenetisch finden nach CLOWES et al. [2] folgende Prozesse statt:

Auswanderung glatter Muskelzellen aus subintimalen und medialen Schichten ohne weitere Teilungsaktivität.

2.
Vermehrung der spezifisch aktivierten Zellpopulationen sowohl während als auch nach der Auswanderung in die Neointima.
