Transmission of Impulses from Cutaneous Mechanoreceptors to the Cerebellum

  • Chapter
Symposium Mechanoreception

Abstract

Although there is little doubt that the cerebellum and in particular the cerebellar cortex participate in the nervous regulation of movement and posture, the mode of operation of the cerebellar cortex in performing its tasks has remained obscure despite remarkable achievements in the physiological and histological analysis of the neuronal wiring diagram (cf. Eccles et al.,1967; Ito, 1970; Palkovits et al,1971a, b. c. 1972; Palay and Chan-Palay, 1974).
