Zusammenfassung

Im letzten Jahrhundert ist es in den Industrieländern zu dramatischen Veränderungen in der Altersstruktur der Bevölkerung gekommen. Bekannt sind die Veränderungen der früher streng pyramidenförmigen Altersverteilungen. Noch beeindruckender ist die Tatsache, daß von allen Menschen der Menschheitsgeschichte, die älter als 65 Jahre alt geworden sind, die Hälfte heute noch lebt.
