Abstract
Vitality of Scots pine mycorrhizae and growth dynamic of mycorrhizae were investigated in two Scots pine stands of different age on reclamation sites in the Lusatian lignite mining area. Seasonal variability of vitality distribution was similar at both stands. Annual mean values of vitality showed site specific differences. The percentage of totally vital and vital mycorrhizae was 21% higher at the younger stand Meuro than at the older stand Domsdorf. Growth dynamic was also different on both stands. In Domsdorf 82% of the mycorrhizae were in the first growing phase (no metacutis was present), whereas in Meuro only 38% belonged to this growing phase. In Meuro the percentage of mycorrhizae with one or more metacutae was much higher than in Domsdorf. The frequent interruptions of mycorrhizal growth correlated with the thinner organic layer in Meuro. The results indicate a high mycorrhizal turnover on nutrient poor reclamation sites.
