Abstract
New information and communication systems are increasingly penetrating all areas of the working world. Knowledge-based systems are beginning to play an important role for supporting work processes. A variety of systems is based on the representation of knowledge as opposed to conventional data processing applications. Expert systems, decision and planning support or hypermedia systems can be considered as examples of such knowledge-oriented systems. The aim of the project WEDA is to develop principles and methods for the development, the design and the application of a range of knowledge-based support tools and to set up guidelines for a user-centered approach for designing and introducing such systems.
