Abstract

Depending on the indication and the skill set of a surgeon, the beach chair or lateral decubitus position for shoulder arthroscopy is available. The beach chair position may be favorable for surgeons beginning to perform shoulder arthroscopy, as anatomic patient positioning makes the superficial landmarks and intra-articular orientation more intuitive; whereas the lateral decubitus position gives an excellent view over the glenoid and may be favored for instability cases. The following chapter will provide detailed information about both positions and point out the pro and cons.
