Zusammenfassung

Wenn wissenschaftliche Disziplinbezeichnungen sich aus zwei Begriffen zusammensetzen, bezeichnet meist der zweite Teil des Wortes die Mutterdisziplin. Dazu passt, dass die Sportmedizin ihren Ursprung im klinischen Bereich der Sportlerversorgung hat, am sichtbarsten in der Sporttraumatologie. Dennoch zählen traditionell auch leistungsphysiologische Inhalte und trainingssteuernde Verfahren zu den sportmedizinischen Schwerpunkten. So stellen (ergometrische) Belastungsuntersuchungen und ihre adäquate Auswertung wichtige Aspekte des Alltags in der Sportmedizin dar.
