Le principal résultat de ce chapitre est la possibilité d’effacer de façon universelle une classe de cohomologie de degré 2 par un topos. Ce résultat est la clef de l’interprétation de H2 (X, G) comme classifiant certains X-topos que l’on pourrait appeler des extensions de X, la terminologie étant inspirée par le cas des extensions de groupe d’un topos, traité au § 7.
