Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kapitel wird ein kurzer, historischer Abriss der Erklärungsmodelle für funktionelle neurologische Störungen sowie deren Bezug zu modernen Entstehungstheorien, neurowissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen und klinischen Konzepten dargestellt. Bereits in der ersten großen Studie zur Hysterie von Pierre Briquet wurde die Bedeutung emotionaler Belastungen für die Entstehung funktioneller Symptome erkannt. Die Pionierarbeiten von Jean-Martin Charcot und seinen Schülern hat diagnostische Methoden etabliert, die bis heute in der klinischen Praxis Anwendung finden. Charcots Schüler Pierre Janet und Sigmund Freud entwickelten psychologische Theorien, die die Symptomproduktion zu erklären versuchten. Der Beitrag von angeborenen Bewegungs- und Verhaltensschablonen wurde von Ernst Kretschmer hervorgehoben. Hermann Oppenheim vermutete einen Beitrag physikalischer Prozesse. Integrative Erklärungsmodelle, wie das biopsychosoziale Modell nach George L. Engel, erlauben eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung ineinandergreifender Vorgänge auf neurophysiologischer und psychosozialer Ebene.
