Zusammenfassung
Lautsprachliche Kommunikation ist die wesentliche Voraussetzung für soziale Teilhabe. Kommunikationsprobleme können demnach weitreichende psychosoziale und emotionale Folgen haben. Hörstörungen im Alter sind dabei eine der häufigsten chronischen Erkrankungen. Es wird geschätzt, dass jede zweite Person über 70 Jahren einen interventionsbedürftigen Hörverlust hat (Zhan et al. 2010; Lin et al. 2011). Im Hinblick auf den demographischen Wandel kann daher davon ausgegangen werden, dass Hörstörungen im Alter auch in Zukunft eine Bürde darstellen.

Deprivationseffekte beschreiben Veränderungen des Gehirns aufgrund des Mangels von Sinneseindrücken.

Beim Lautheitsausgleich werden laute Schallereignisse von Personen mit Hörschädigung im Vergleich zu normalhörenden Personen ähnlich laut wahrgenommen, während leise Schalle nicht gehört werden.

Vereinfacht wird unter Arbeitsgedächtnis der Teil des Kurzzeitgedächtnisses verstanden, der neben dem Speichern für die Weiterverarbeitung der Inhalte verantwortlich ist.

Da Hörgeräte akustische Signale nicht nur einfach linear verstärken sondern auf komplexere Weise weiterverarbeiten, wird das Originalsignal hinsichtlich seiner Struktur zwangsläufig mehr oder weniger stark verändert.
