Zusammenfassung
In ► Kap. 7 wurden die molekularen und funktionellen Grundlagen der Biokatalyse durch Enzyme besprochen. Das folgende Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit den zahlreichen Mechanismen der Regulation der Enzymaktivität. Die Fähigkeit biologischer Systeme, die katalytische Aktivität ihrer Enzyme an veränderte Bedingungen anzupassen, ist eine unabdingbare Voraussetzung für Wachstum, Differenzierung, Zellteilung und Stoffwechselregulation. Hierbei kann zwischen einer schnellen Veränderung der Aktivität bereits vorhandener Enzymmoleküle und einer vergleichsweise langsamen Kontrolle der Enzymaktivität durch eine Veränderung von Transkription, Translation und Proteolyse unterschieden werden. Die Entwicklung und der Einsatz von Pharmaka, die als Enzymeffektoren wirksam sind, eröffnet eine Vielzahl neuer Möglichkeiten zur Therapie verschiedenster Erkrankungen.
