Abstract

Neurocritical care is a data-driven discipline which requires evaluation and treatment of complex patients in whom many types of clinical data exist. The electronic medical record plays a central role in organizing and presenting this data to the clinician. In this chapter, we will review the elements of the electronic medical record that are important for neurocritical care and highlight the common decisions that can be made based on the electronic medical record. We will explore some of the commonly available legacy systems that exist and highlight what these systems provide and what they don’t provide.
