Zusammenfassung
Ermüdung ist ein normaler Prozess und tritt nach langen Wachzeiten (>15 h) auf. Schläfrigkeit, Müdigkeit, Erschöpfung sind komplexe physiologischer Vorgänge. Um die mannigfaltigen Wechselwirkungen zwischen Wachsein – Ermüdung – Schlaf zu verstehen, wurden theoretische Modelle vorgeschlagen, von denen zwei (das Zwei- und das Vier-Prozess Modell der Schlaf-wach-Regulation) genauer dargestellt werden.
Die Modelle helfen beim Ermüdungsrisikomanagement, die Entstehung und den Zeitverlauf von Ermüdungsprozessen nachzustellen und Zeitpunkte vorherzusagen, ab wann bei einer bestimmten Tätigkeit mit einem erhöhten müdigkeitsbedingten Unfallrisiko (Müdigkeit am Steuer, am Arbeitsplatz) zu rechnen ist.
Rasche Ermüdbarkeit kann auch die Folge von verschiedenen Krankheitsbildern sein, die erkannt und therapiert werden müssen. Die wichtigsten Schlafstörungen, die zu einer erhöhten Tagesmüdigkeit führen können und notwendige diagnostische Untersuchungsmethoden werden im Überblick dargestellt.
