Grundlagen der Symptomkontrolle

Zusammenfassung

In der Palliativmedizin spielt die Symptomkontrolle eine entscheidende Rolle. Während Symptome in der kurativen Medizin als Leitschnur für die Diagnose gesehen werden und sich in der Folge der Besserung des Grundleidens mindern, fokussiert Palliativversorgung auf die Linderung der Beschwerden, die Beachtung des ganzen Patienten und seines Umfeldes. Unlängst ist klar, dass die frühzeitige umfassende Symptomlinderung die Lebensqualität steigert, Depression mindert und sogar die Lebenszeit verlängert. Im Basisassessment werden u. a. die häufigsten Beschwerden abgefragt. Neben rein symptomkontrollierenden Ansätzen, können auch Verfahren der Chirurgie, Strahlentherapie oder interventionellen Endoskopie sinnvoll eingesetzt werden. Entsprechend dem Liverpool Care Pathway werden Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung des Wohlbefindens besprochen.
