Zusammenfassung
Die Erstellung einer Prognose für Menschen im Wachkoma muss sehr kritisch hinterfragt werden und bedarf besonderer Sorgfalt und Rücksichtnahme. Es bleibt eine Tatsache, dass Menschen, die durch ein Schädel-Hirn-Trauma in den Zustand eines Wachkomas gelangen, und jüngere Patienten insgesamt günstigere Voraussetzungen für eine Remission und für die Wiedererlangung der bewussten Wahrnehmung und Reaktionsfähigkeit haben als Patienten, die aufgrund einer Hypoxie oder einer Gehirnblutung in diesen Zustand gekommen sind. Über 40 % der Patienten versterben innerhalb des ersten Jahres. Gegenüber der früheren Meinung sind aber Remissionen auch noch nach 2 und mehr Jahren möglich. Es muss aber festgehalten werden, dass trotz Wiedererlangen der bewussten Wahrnehmung und Reaktionsfähigkeiten fast ausnahmslos alle Patienten funktionell schwerstbehindert bleiben.
