Zusammenfassung
Die UN-Generalversammlung verabschiedete im September 2015 das Dokument „Agenda 2030 für nachhaltige Entwicklung“. Es beinhaltet eine Reihe von Maßnahmen, die darauf ausgerichtet sind, wirtschaftlichen Fortschritt und Umweltschutz in Einklang zu bringen und gleichzeitig ein Bewusstsein für die noch immer bestehenden Unterschiede zwischen Industrie- und Entwicklungsländern zu schaffen. In der Agenda enthalten sind 17 Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung (Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs), die unter anderem darauf ausgerichtet sind, Armut zu beseitigen und bessere Gesundheitsbedingungen sowohl in entwickelten als auch in Entwicklungsländern zu schaffen. Wenngleich die Notwendigkeit und Relevanz der SDGs evident ist, stellt sich dennoch die Frage, wie sie dazu beitragen können, aktuelle und zukünftige Herausforderungen im Bereich Nachhaltigkeit zu bewältigen. Um diese Fragestellung näher zu beleuchten, beschreibt die vorliegende Arbeit zunächst die einzelnen SDGs und analysiert, inwieweit ihre Implementierung zur Unterstützung beim aktuellen Umgang mit akuten Problemen, die bei dem Versuch der Umsetzung nachhaltiger Entwicklung entstehen, beitragen kann. Um zu zeigen, wie ein guter Umgang mit den SDGs in der Praxis aussehen kann, werden drei Fallstudien vorgestellt. Die Arbeit kommt zu dem Schluss, dass der Implementierungsprozess der SDGs einzigartige Möglichkeiten zur Schaffung von Chancengleichheit und Förderung von wirtschaftlicher Unabhängigkeit bietet und so Länder dabei unterstützt, vor Ort nachhaltige Entwicklung zugunsten der Bevölkerung zu fördern.
