Bilder sind nie perfekte Abbildungen der Wirklichkeit. Jedes Foto und jedes Video stellt aufgrund natürlicher und technischer Restriktionen bereits einen vom Schaffenden gewählten Ausschnitt einer Gesamtszenerie dar und das Herstellen von Bildern selbst ändert oft das, was abgebildet werden soll (Kameraaufnahme: „Bitte lächeln“). Dennoch, Bilder und Videos gelten nicht nur vor Gericht als starker Beleg, dass sich Dinge wie dargestellt zugetragen haben.
