Die Auswahl der MRSA-wirksamen Substanz richtet sich nach der Lokalisation der Infektion und der Gewebegängigkeit der Substanz sowie der Verträglichkeit und möglicher Interaktionen sowie bei Langzeittherapienotwendigkeit der Frage der Oralisierbarkeit. Hier kann es sinnvoll sein, zunächst mit einer nur intravenös verfügbaren Substanz zu beginnen und dann später auf eine oral verfügbare andere Substanz umzustellen.
