Abstract
Man wants to be like Phoenix. From this derives his special relationship with the fire and the birds. Fire is the medium that provides warmth, food preparation, and supposed renewal. Phoenix, fire, and man find themselves in a recurring cycle of nature. How does man relate to the firebirds in particular and to the birds in general? He venerates the firebirds with dedication and incorporates them into his faith, but to the birds in general, he has an ambivalent relationship that depends on his culture, circumstances, preferences, and dreams. On the one hand, the birds fascinate him by their appearance, their song, and their performance in the cycle of nature, but on the other hand, he hunts them. We describe how we found our way to the Phoenix-winged, the Lesser Flamingos. We report on how we have explored their specific interactions with the algae and humans in and around the waters of their tropical homeland.
