Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kapitel wird zunächst der Berufs- und Karrierebegriff eingeführt. Nachfolgend geht es um die Funktionen von Erwerbsarbeit. Hierbei wird zwischen offensichtlichen Funktionen (z. B. Sicherung des Lebensunterhaltes) und den weniger offenkundigen (z. B. Strukturierung der Zeit) unterschieden. Anschließend wird die Berufswahl aus einer differentialpsychologischen Perspektive betrachtet. Doch auch nach der Berufswahl stehen Erwerbstätige im Laufe des Berufslebens immer wieder vor neuen Herausforderungen und damit Entwicklungsaufgaben. Dazu zählen beispielsweise Stellenwechsel und Phasen der Erwerbsunterbrechung sowie ggf. des Wiedereinstiegs. Exemplarisch wird die organisationale Sozialisation als berufliche Entwicklungsaufgabe genauer betrachtet und anhand eines Prozessmodells erläutert. Nachfolgend wird die berufliche Entwicklung in den familiären Lebensbereich und somit in ein über Organisationen hinausgehenden Kontext sozialer Beziehungen und Entwicklungsherausforderungen eingebettet.
