Zusammenfassung
Wenn man sich mit der Frage beschäftigt, ob und wie Leben durch chemische Evolution entstanden sein kann, dann sollte man auch in der Lage sein, das Ziel, also Leben, klar zu benennen. Zu diesem Punkt hat sich allerdings der Schriftsteller Arthur Schnitzler sehr skeptisch geäußert: „Was Leben ist, vermag kein Wissenschaftler zu sagen.“ Dennoch haben sich zahlreiche Wissenschaftler mit der Frage, wie das Phänomen Leben zu definieren sei, ausführlich auseinandergesetzt, und an dieser Stelle soll nur eine Zusammenfassung verschiedener Aspekte dieser Problematik präsentiert werden, weil der Schwerpunkt dieses Buches eine ausführlichere Diskussion dieser Thematik nicht erfordert.
