Zusammenfassung
Aminosäuren tragen am sog. α-C-Atom 4 verschiedene Gruppen: ein Wasserstoffatom, eine Carboxylgruppe (COO–), eine Aminogruppe (NH3+), eine individuelle Seitenkette (Rest, R). Da an das zentrale C-Atom i.d.R. 4 verschiedene Gruppen binden, sind die tetraedrisch gebauten Aminosäuren chiral (außer Glycin, mit 2 H-Atomen am α-C-Atom); die beiden spiegelbildlich gebauten Formen bezeichnet man als d- und l-Isomere.
