Zusammenfassung
Das vorliegende Kapitel vermittelt grundlegende Informationen zur Embryologie der Atemwege und Lunge, des Herzens und der großen Gefäße, des Ösophagus sowie des Thymus. Darüber hinaus wird auf die Besonderheiten der Anatomie des Neugeborenen und auf die Unterschiede zu späteren Lebensphasen eingegangen. Neugeborene und Säuglinge haben im Vergleich zu älteren Kindern und Erwachsenen geringere Reserven zur Bewältigung respiratorischer oder kardiovaskulärer Störungen und damit eine deutlich erhöhte Suszeptibilität für schwerere Manifestationen vor allem respiratorischer Erkrankungen. Wichtige, dafür verantwortliche anatomische und physiologische Gründe werden abschließend im Detail erörtert.
