Zusammenfassung

Ösophaguskarzinome stellen ≥ 99 % aller primären Malignome der Speiseröhre dar. Neben den beiden häufigsten Subentitäten (Adeno- und Plattenepithelkarzinome) treten, wenn auch wesentlich seltener neuroendokrine Karzinome (≤ 1 %) auf. Die studienbasierte Entwicklung multimodaler Therapiealgorithmen hat zu einer deutlichen Verbesserung der Prognose, insbesondere bei Plattenepitelkarzinomen beigetragen. Dennoch zählen Speiseröhrenkarzinome zu den Krebserkrankungen mit einer weiterhin schlechten Prognose und vergleichsweise hohen Mortalität.
