Zusammenfassung
Heutzutage sind bis zu zwei Drittel der tracheotomierten Kinder unter einem Jahr alt, darunter finden sich sehr viele Langzeitkanülenträger. Die Unterschiede pädiatrischer Tracheotomien hinsichtlich der Indikationen und Durchführung gegenüber dem Erwachsenenalter werden herausgearbeitet. Bevor Leser mit den einzelnen operativen Schritten bei der Durchführung der pädiatrischen Tracheotomie als konventionell-chirurgische Methode oder als Sternplastik beginnen, ist unbedingt die Beschreibung der Besonderheiten der kindlichen Anatomie und Topografie aus diesem Kapitel zur Kenntnis zu nehmen. Verschiedene Methoden und deren Indikationen sowie Gefahrenquellen und Komplikationen werden ausführlich dargestellt. Aufgrund der kleinen Atemwege, der geringen Durchmesser der Kanülen und der Unfähigkeit der Kleinkinder sich bemerkbar zu machen, können postoperative Situationen rasch lebensbedrohlich werden. Mit den spezifischen Problemen der Nachsorge im Kindesalter werden Leser vertraut gemacht.
