Zusammenfassung

Kapitel 4 ist den psychologischen Hoffnungstheorien gewidmet. Erikson betrachtet Hoffnung als Urvertrauen und sozialpsychologische Grundtugend. Die kognitivistische Theorie versteht Hoffnung als zielorientierte Willenskraft und Umsetzungsstärke. Andere Theorien beschreiben Hoffnung als Emotion, als Tugend, als Antizipation von Sinn, als spiritueller und als fundamentaler Glaube an das Gute. Multidimensionale Konzepte plädieren für eine Integration unterschiedlicher Facetten von Hoffnung. Neuere Theorien sehen Hoffnung als kulturelles Phänomen, welches in Metaphern und verschiedenen Begriffen zum Ausdruck kommt. Hoffnungsobjekte und Aktionen zur Verwirklichung von Hoffnungen können stark voneinander abweichen. Von Bedeutung ist die Unterscheidung zwischen Hoffnung, Optimismus, Wünschen und Erwartungen. Die Pflegewissenschaft erkennt den lebenserhaltenden Wert von Hoffnung an und stellt fest, dass es kontraproduktiv wäre, Hoffnungen in realistisch und unrealistisch zu kategorisieren.
