Zusammenfassung

Eine Depression kann das spirituelle Leben maßgeblich inhaltlich prägen, in seiner emotionalen Dimension modulieren und in seiner Qualität massiv überschatten. Neurobiologische Faktoren der Downregulation von Denken und Fühlen wirken sich auch auf die Spiritualität aus. Zentrale Aspekte einer positiv erlebten Spiritualität sind letztlich mit der kognitiven und emotionalen Schwingungsfähigkeit verbunden. Wird diese reduziert, so drücken spirituell erlebende Menschen dies in spirituellen Begriffen aus. Besonders eindrücklich wird dies am Begriff der „dunklen Nacht der Seele“ illustriert. Dabei wird die seelische Finsternis nicht immer als reine Krankheit erlebt, sondern kann auch zum Reifungsprozess für eine Person werden, aus dem neue Kreativität entspringt.
