Zusammenfassung
Die numerische Mathematik befasst sich mit der (möglichst effizienten, algorithmischen)Berechnung von Näherungslösungen verschiedener Typen mathematischer Probleme: mitallgemeinen Gleichungen und Gleichungssystemen, bestimmten Integralen, Differenzialgleichungen,Extremen von Funktionen, Koeffizienten von Funktionen, die bestimmteBedingungen erfüllen, …. Auf den ersten Blick könnte man meinen, dass es sich um einerst in der modernen Computerzeit entwickeltes Gebiet handelt. Zwar erlebte die numerischeMathematik mit der Einführung moderner Computer eine intensive Entwicklung,ihre Ursprünge kann man aber noch im Altertum finden.

Das Interpolationsproblem besteht im Finden einer Funktion, deren Graph durch gegebene Punkte passiert. Diese Funktion kann dann unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen zur Schätzung der Zwischenwerte benutzt werden.

Wir werden die sexagesimalen Zahlen in der Form \((... a_1,a_0;a_{-1},a_{-2}...)_{60}\) angeben, mit der Bedeutung \(...+a_1 60+a_0+a_{-1}60^{-1}+a_{-2}60^{-2}+...\)

In einer Folge von Zahlen ist der Medianwert der Wert, der an mittlerer Stelle steht, wenn die Zahlen in einer aufsteigenden Ordnung sortiert sind.
