Abstract
Information technology and communication tools have fundamentally changed the way in which humans operate and interact over the last decade. Information that was regarded as private in the past is openly shared today on social websites, and the most insignificant things are tweeted to the world. In light of these changes, regulators around the world must take a step back and assess whether their current legal frameworks with regard to data and privacy protection, as well as the rights of individuals, are suitable to deal with the new challenges taking shape.
