Zusammenfassung
In Mitteleuropa werden viele Renaturierungsprojekte durchgeführt, es fehlen aber oft fundierte und standardisierte Untersuchungen zur Wirksamkeit der Maßnahmen. Dadurch bleibt der langfristige Erfolg der Projekte unklar. Das vorliegende Kapitel gibt einen praxisorientierten Überblick über die Erfolgskontrolle bei Renaturierungen und fokussiert auf das Verhältnis von Aufwand zu Nutzen. Für ein Monitoring empfiehlt sich ein dreiteiliges Vorgehen mit Festlegung der Renaturierungsziele, der Auswahl geeigneter Indikatoren für die Zielüberprüfung sowie der Erfassung der Entwicklung des renaturierten Ökosystems. Zur konkreten Arbeit des Monitorings gehört die Aufnahme der wichtigsten Standortvariablen, ausgewählter Pflanzen- und Tierarten sowie der Vegetation. Außerdem sind Untersuchungen zur Veränderung der Landschaftsstruktur hilfreich. Ebenso sollten unterschiedliche Behandlungsalternativen, Kontrollflächen ohne Eingriffe sowie Referenzflächen mit der Zielvegetation vor und nach den Maßnahmen einbezogen werden, weil nur so die geeignetsten Formen der Renaturierung identifiziert werden können. Eine aktiv-adaptive Renaturierung würde den dadurch erreichten Erkenntnisgewinn in bessere praktische Maßnahmen umsetzen.
