Zusammenfassung

Eine schwere oder chronische Krankheit vermittelt – in größerem oder kleinerem Ausmaß – immer ein Gefühl der existenziellen Bedrohung. Die dadurch hervorgerufene Angst wird zum Leitaffekt des Krankheitserlebens. Daneben beeinträchtigen die mit Krankheit verbundenen Verluste das Selbstwerterleben und erfordern eine Anpassung der gewohnten sozialen Rollen. Die Bewältigung von Angst, Trauer und Depression sind die zentralen Aufgaben der psychischen Verarbeitung von Krankheit. Die durch Krankheit bedingten Lebenskrisen können aber auch als Chance für Veränderungen genutzt werden.
