Point-of-Care Testing

Abstract

In preclinical and clinical emergency care, laboratory testing is one of the most important aspects of diagnostics, alongside clinical assessment, ECG and imaging (ultrasound, radiology). In this context, lab workups are primarily used to aid diagnosis when the clinical picture is unclear, to support initial therapeutic interventions as well as for risk stratification. The main focus is on the rapid availability of vital parameters such as electrolytes, lactate, cardiac troponin and hemoglobin.
