The total joint arthroplasty (TJA) of the limb is a very effective treatment of degenerative and inflammatory diseases of the joint. The demand for TJAs is increasing with the aging of the population. The number of surgical site infections (SSIs) following TJA is growing, too (National Joint Registry 2013).
