Abstract

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm should always be suspected in men older than 60 years with acute abdominal pain.

  • Patients who present with the triad of circulatory shock, abdominal or back pain, and a positive examination for a pulsating mass in the abdomen should immediately be transferred to the operating room for resuscitation and emergency treatment.

  • Urgent surgery should not be delayed by unnecessary computed tomography or ultrasound scans.
