Zusammenfassung

Die Voraussetzung für eine erfolgreiche medikamentöse oder chirurgische Therapie von Kopf- und Gesichtsschmerzen ist die korrekte Diagnosestellung bei Kenntnis von Differenzialdiagnosen oder Mischformen. Ganz entscheidend ist, dem leidenden Patienten nicht durch falsch indizierte oder falsch gewählte chirurgische Eingriffe noch mehr Schmerzen zuzufügen. Jedem Neurochirurgen sind diejenigen Patienten zu Genüge bekannt, bei denen ganze Serien von Zähnen gezogen wurden, bevor eine Trigeminusneuralgie diagnostiziert wurde oder bei denen nach peripheren chirurgischen Verfahren mit konsekutiven neuropathischen Schmerzen durch zusätzliche neuroläsionelle Verfahren Phantomschmerzen im Gesicht, die sogenannte Anaesthesia dolorosa, erzeugt wurden.
