Zusammenfassung
Schilddrüsenoperationen gehören in vielen Krankenhäusern zum alltäglichen operativen Repertoire. In Deutschland werden derzeit jährlich etwa 90.000 Schilddrüsenoperationen durchgeführt (Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland 2013). Über 80 % dieser Eingriffe entfallen auf die Resektion euthyreoter, benigner Knotenstrumen. Lediglich ca. 1 % aller Eingriffe entfallen auf Operationen eines Schilddrüsenkarzinoms. Operationen einer Hyperthyreose mit Struma werden in 15–20 % der Fälle durchgeführt. Unter diesen Eingriffen entfällt unter 1 % auf die Behandlung der thyreotoxischen Krise (Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland 2013). Notfallsituationen treten im Rahmen der Schilddrüsenchirurgie vor allem durch postoperative Komplikationen auf.
