Zusammenfassung

In Kapitel 4 wird auf den bereits dargestellten neurophysiologischen Grundlagen fußend zunächst die Funktionsweise des Hörens dargestellt, und dann, kürzer gefasst, die von Geruch und Geschmack, Somatosensorik (haptische, Temperatur und Schmerzwahrnehmung) und die Tiefensensibilität des eigenen Körpers (Propriozeption).

Das Gehör informiert uns über Ereignisse in unserer Umwelt, von denen wir viele nicht bemerken würden, wenn wir nur auf den Gesichtssinn angewiesen wären.

Es spricht einiges für die Ansicht, dass die Wahrnehmungen des somatosensorischen Systems genauso lebenswichtig sind, wie die visuellen und auditiven Wahrnehmungen. (Goldstein 1997, S. 432 u. S. 347)
