Zusammenfassung
Aravind wurde 1976 als kleine Augenklinik im indischen Madurai gegründet. Heute umfasst Aravind mehrere große Augenkliniken, die jährlich über 400.000 Operationen durchführen. Obwohl das Unternehmen seinen Patienten die Wahl lässt, ob sie für die Behandlung zahlen wollen bzw. können oder nicht, arbeitet Aravind profitabel. Dieses Beispiel zeigt, wie ein „soziales Freemium“-Geschäftsmodell erfolgreich in der Praxis umgesetzt werden kann, und dass wertebasierte Geschäftsmodellinnovationen in Prozessen, Produkten, Dienstleistungen, Geschäftsmodellen und Netzwerken möglich und sogar der Schlüssel zu unternehmerischem Erfolg sein können. Das Kapitel diskutiert zudem die Rolle von Unternehmenskultur und -werten und stellt das Konzept der „wertebasierten Innovation“ als einen neuen analytischen Rahmen vor. Mithilfe dieses Rahmens werden die Geschäftsmodellinnovationen von Aravind systematisch herausgearbeitet und auf die wichtigsten Gründer-, Mitarbeiter- und Unternehmenswerte zurückgeführt.
