Zusammenfassung

Vermehrte Kopfschmerzen können zu vermehrter Schmerzmitteleinnahme, die vermehrte Einnahme wiederum kann zu Veränderungen im Nervensystem führen. So können sich Strukturen, die für die Aufnahme und Verarbeitung von Schmerz verantwortlich sind, verändern. Dies kann zu einem Ungleichgewicht zwischen schmerzverarbeitenden und schmerzhemmenden System führen, sodass Schmerzreize nicht mehr gut genug unterdrückt werden und die Häufigkeit der Kopfschmerzen zunimmt. Dies wiederum kann zu einem weiteren Anstieg der Medikamenteneinnahme führen, wodurch dann das schmerzverarbeitende System noch empfindlicher wird. Und so kann sich dieser Regelkreis wie eine Spirale in die Höhe schrauben. Die Medikamente helfen dann zwar noch, aber ihre Wirkung wird zunehmend schwächer. Vor allem aber sorgen sie dafür, dass die Kopfschmerzen noch häufiger auftreten.
